Tips for Ducking Flying Fees

As if things weren’t financially miserable enough, it’s gradually becoming even more expensive to travel. Domestic airfare prices spiked 8% from last year, and airlines are pulling out every stop to eke out more revenue.

Use James &  Longbourne carry-on luggage to  avoid unnecessary flying fees.

Avoid Checking Luggage: Many of our favorite Budget value for money airlines demand £25 for the first checked bag and £35 for the second one. Packing a carry-on only will dodge these fees.

James & Longbourne Lightweight Luggage

The Sun newspaper loves the James & Longbourne cary-on lightweight luggage range!

“My travel companion this time was the quite brilliant ‘Saffra’ luggage collection from James and Longbourne. I say ‘companion’ because it was there every step of the journey and never a burden, only a massive help. I carried it on my shoulder down the stairs, I wheeled it to the car, I held it by the handle in the check-in queue and I detached a section that I needed whilst on board. It’s like every bag I’ve ever had before, combined……”

Carry-On Allowance

Passenger Cabin Baggage Allowance for an ever increasing  number of airlines is restricted to one bag (maximum dimensions are 56 x 45 x 25cm holding a maximum weight of 10kg) into which passengers must place all handbags, laptops etc. This policy is enforced rigorously to ensure fairness to all passengers.

Passengers who do not comply and present with more than one piece of hand luggage will be charged an additional fee (which varies according to the airline) of approximatley  €/£30 at the departure gate and have their bag placed in the aircraft’s hold.
Passengers can avoid this fee by using the the James & Longbourne Tri-Fold Garment Carrier with Zip-Away laptop bag -when the two bags (garment carrier and Laptop bag) are zipped together this is ONE bag and complies with the single bag carry-on allowance.

Hand baggage – what goes in and what stays out?

Some airlines will ONLY allow you to take one piece of hand baggage into the cabin with you; maximum dimensions are 56 x 45 x 25cm. Hand bags, briefcases, laptops and laptop bags are all counted as one piece so if you have a hand bag and a laptop bag for example, you’ll be asked to pay a charge to put one in the hold, therefore you might want to consider the James & Longbourne Tri-Fold Garment Carrier with Zip-Away laptop bag -when the two bags (garment carrier and Laptop bag) are zipped together this is ONE bag and complies with all airlines carry-on requirements:

Carry-On Luggage

Carry On Luggage

The garment bag that means business. This bag cleverly allows you to carry garments and business essentials with unmistakable style. With space for laptops up to 15” in size within the “zip away” detachable laptop bag for easy portability

The Garment Bag features superb organisation to keep your clothes crease free (upto 2 suits). Arrive at the hotel, office or resort and “zip-away” the laptop bag!

Not even Ryanair can charge you extra for carrying this compact piece of luggage as it complies with ALL airlines requirements for Carry-On size and weight!

Exclusively James & Longbourne.

As passenger behavior changes in both their attitude towards airline travel, with the concept of “hop on/hop off” short haul routes -  and how passengers have become more thoughtful about how and what they pack – coupled with tougher restrictions (and fees) for handling baggage -  our goal at James & Longbourne, was to design and develop a range of luggage that was compatible with the change in requirements and trends, looks and feels stylish, is highly practical and most importantly complies with all the Airlines carry-on requirements.

We have therefore started on our journey, the James & Longbourne Tri-Fold Garment Bag with “Zip-Away” Laptop Bag that cleverly allows you to carry garments and business essentials with unmistakable style. With space for laptops up to 15” in size within the “zip away” detachable laptop bag for easy portability – despite all their efforts, not even Ryanair can charge you extra for carrying this compact piece.

Our second piece is the Worlds only “Micro Case” This elegant travel accessory has been designed by James & Longbourne for the man on the move. It allows you to neatly organise your luggage (up to 7 business shirts and 4 ties), carry a wash bag (supplied with an airline security compliant washbag) and is small enough to fit into your brief case!!!

“Bringing a big bag and expecting it to travel for free, it’s too much to ask,” said Stephen McNamara, director of communications for Ryanair. “It’s expensive to ship something heavy in an airplane when fuel prices are very high.” Mr. McNamara said the airline had as a goal nothing less than changing passenger behavior. “People are packing way too much; women bringing four pairs of shoes, hair dryers, that sort of thing.”

It is our belief at James & Longbourne that other airlines will adopt a similar stance (more diplomatically perhaps?)  towards checking-in and carrying luggage. The increase in air travel puts tremendous strain on existing airport facilities, so turnaround times for airplanes are under constant pressure to be reduced. Thus, reductions in boarding time (and passengers checking in luggage) result in revenue increases and/or cost reductions while potentially increasing passenger satisfaction. Our goal at James & Longbourne, is therefore to design and develop a range of unique Carry-On luggage that is affordable, world class quality, stylish, practical and complies with ALL airlines hand luggage requirements.
